I am a little annoyed and my love and inspiration from Kelly Cutrone has prompted me to blog a bit about my frustrations!
So in homage to her, here is the out there blog post of the day…it debuted as my Facebook status earlier today…
Dear Models: Photographs lacking photographic integrity (i.e. exposure, composition, quality post processing) do nothing for your careers! And yes, it’s true… cause that’s how I roll!
If you want viable images for your portfolio, you need to INVEST in them. That doesn’t necessarially even mean with me… (though, I would hope that is who you would choose).
As a model it is your obligation to invest in your portfolio and your future.
This is my business, and as with all business’ it’s primary goal is to earn money, pay the bills, ensure that the mortgage is paid on time and food it on the table. Modeling is your business! You want to get paid for what you do, right?
Just as my business has expenses, so does yours. Your portfolio is one of those expenses.
If you are getting photography for free, please remember: you get what you pay for… and a free car usually doesn’t run.
So here is the straight shooting:
I don’t create modeling portfolios free of charge nor will I entertain you modeling for me in exchange for the use of those images in my portfolio, that is something inherently understood via paid clients. This is my business, and last I checked, the local plumber didn’t spend a day with you making your life easier and doing amazing things under your sink so that you would tell all your friends. Nope, he (or she) expected a paycheck. So do I.
And just so we are keeping things on the up and up, I don’t know ANYONE that will create your modeling portfolio for free. And if I did, I would tell them they were stupid and give them a price point to begin charging for their services, time and talent.
