Marketing Skipper as the “New Barbie” By Monica Wilcox

I had no idea the fashion industry was running low on adult female models until I received my recent Victoria Secret swimsuit catalog.  What a sorry situation this has turned out to be; using thirteen year old girls to imposter grown women.  Obviously their Photoshop technicians lack experience in age amplification; the addition of hips, breasts, a broader face, smile lines, sophistication behind the eyes.  If the market is going to ask me to imagine myself lounging around the pool in a suit being modeled on the shapeless body of a middle schooler, well New York…we have a problem.

I’m trying to put myself under the delusional buyer misconception that this swimsuit will magically transform my body into the type 4% of the female population struts in, verses the shape 96% of women live with, but all I’m getting are flashbacks of middle school.  Surely the fashion gurus are not selling me some sick ideal of a 7th grade body; the acne, arms longer than trunks, clumsy adult feet on knobby legs, belts cinched around a non-existent waistline, girls towering like leaning skyscrapers over the boys. The only person I know who enjoyed that year was the one who spent most of it in a coma.  No, I don’t desire a retro look that screams “I have acne, braces, and smelly feet; pick one and torment me over it.”

When did attractive, adult, photographic women become an endangered species?  This poor girl’s attempting to sell a swimsuit designed for a woman with Pamela Anderson curves and a Sophia Loren confidence. My father used to say, “You’re not a woman until you’ve experienced enough life to know who you’ve got residing in your gut. That’s when you go from living in your skin to standing in it. The day you fall in love with your own life is the day you become a woman.” This level of self-awareness puts a look in a woman’s eyes that can not be photoshopped, taught or feigned. It also happens to be the sexiest marketing tool out there.

I wouldn’t buy this slashed black suit out of fear that my fellow pool goers will mistake me for Miley Cyrus.  I want a suit to compliment the heart break, success, frustration and joy my body has carried me through. Firm legs that have taken me down many long roads, sloping hips that have bred two lives, and sun freckled skin from days spent playing in the outdoors. I’ve earned every part of my appearance and I’m ready to see my future wardrobe marketed by models who have also earned theirs. Forever 21 has dealt enough pressure on the female population to make “Almost 14” down right ludicrous.

Instead of staging a talent search on every playground in America, it’s time for the industry to feature women who have well-aged self-confidence blooming in their eyes. Women who have brought success to every level of their lives while amplifying their outer beauty. Frankly New York, I’d rather purchase from Barbie’s closet; a woman who has experienced more than your average 51 year old.  Skipper, she’s very cute, but she’s got a long way to go before she stands in her own skin.

Consider Every Angle: Advantages of a Second Photographer | Omaha Wedding Photographer :: A Sunday Re-Run

Your wedding day is one of the most important events of your life, so you need to know in your core that your wedding photography team will capture every beautiful, memorable moment.  Accordingly, many wedding couples are now opting to hire a second photographer.  Since you’ll want to include both formal portraiture and candid shots in your album, having two photographers “tag team” throughout the day brings spontaneous style and dimension to your wedding memories.

Most couples have a vision for their wedding photography that includes several must-have artistic moments, and many of them need to be captured virtually simultaneously.  Two photographers working together will be able to work two different places at once.

For example, the bride will likely want a photo of her dress hanging in a beautiful spot that’s evocative of the wedding location, such as back-lit in a window or on a cottage door. She’ll want her preparations covered, especially shots of her mother or sister helping her with her veil or necklace. The couple will want their cake, flowers and beautifully set tables documented before the festivities begin.

And while the bride is  getting ready, the groom will be undergoing his own preparations with his groomsmen, which can involve moments of hilarity and camaraderie — as well as solemn introspection — as the groom prepares to take his vows.  With two photographers, you’ll be able to capture all of these meaningful details before the ceremony even begins.

~~~~~
While it is common to photograph formal family portraits, the images of spontaneous emotional moments can be the icing on the cake.  While one photographer is documenting your father’s emotional toast, the other will be able capture your mother’s happy tears while he’s making it.  A second photographer will also be able to get shots of your guests’ reactions to the many touching and often funny moments throughout the day.  Particularly with larger weddings of more than 100 people, having two photographers on hand will ensure that every detail of your wedding day goes down in history.
Having a second photographer often adds a palpable sense of time and dimension to the photos of your day, which will truly bring your story to life.   With two photographers capturing moments that occur simultaneously, they will be able to bring a real-time, photo-journalistic quality to your images.
For example, while one photographer is up front with the groom during the processional, the other can be in the back with the bride and her father or family.  With two photographers working at once and from different angles, you will end up with shots of the groom’s face when the bride first appears. You’ll have the bride moments before walking down the aisle, as well as beautiful shots of her back as she proceeds.
One has the opportunity to photograph close-ups of the emotional VIPs in the front row,the flower girl looking adoringly at the bride and the bride catching the groom’s eye at the very same moment.  Taken together, these different facets of the ceremony create a full emotional picture of the moment.
Sloan’s Second Photographers — “Double Prime”
Wedding events tend to be fast-paced, so your two photographers will communicate clearly, quickly and often with one another. The second photographer will help the first with formal shots, but will also be roving for spontaneous shots. At times they’ll be capturing the same event from different angles and possibly with different lenses for different effects.
Sloan Photographers ensure that every moment gets optimal coverage. With a perfectly matched team of experienced photographers you will not only have a beautiful and comprehensive photo-journalistic record of your day, but also the peace of mind to fully enjoy it while it’s happening.
