Choosing a photographer :: Omaha Photographer

This entry is part 4 of 8 in the series Custom Photography

Life is insane in this day an age; however, it doesn’t matter whether you are searching for a wedding photographer, a photographer for your senior portraits, your newborn baby, or your adorable one year old child.

Sometimes, (especially in my case),we have trouble touching base initially, so I figured I would offer some food for thought in this arena.

When choosing your photographer there are several things you should take into consideration. Always view a photographers’ work to see if he/she creates images the style you like.  All this… knowing that personality is JUST as important as portrait quality.

My style…

whether it be pricing, shooting, wedding photography, etc. is not traditional and may seem a bit unconventional to some — so is my personality. I like to tell people they are cutting edge and contemporary.  But the truth is, I am me, unabashedly me!  I won’t throw a misnomer your way if I can avoid it.

I am an incredible person (or so I am told), and I love what I do.  Who could ask for more?
I could.

I could ask about you and your personality.  Your ideas, thoughts, passions… and I do.  I ask about all those things.

******************************

Usually clients that retain a creative session (or wedding) with me have been referred by their friends, or have seen my work and love the my classic approach with a contemporary edge and fine art twist.

As a portrait photographer with a unique style you may notice some things when looking at my work that are different from other photographers.

Tight Crops- These are the photographs that are very close up, ones face fills most of the frame and the focus is on the eyes.  Sometimes with tight crops the tops of heads will be cut off…. and yes, I meant to do that!

Not-So-Smiley-
You won’t hear me saying that ever, lol. I love a pensive look as much as a grin. I meant to do that!

Let’s be Negative- Negative space is when you see a photograph and the subject is off to one side of the photograph and the rest of the image is empty. This is done for artistic impact. I meant to do that, too!  The ideal creates visual tension that allows the focus of the image to really be the focus.  I love being “negative.”

Left (or right) of Center- The most boring placement for your subject is smack dab in the middle. I know you probably didn’t know that, as most of use are trained to center everything! Trust me there is something called the Rule of Thirds that photographers use to employ visual impact.  It goes right along with being negative… I love it, too!

The rule states that and image can be divided into nine equal parts by two equally spaced horizontal lines and two equally spaced vertical lines ( like a tic-tac-toe board). The four points formed by the intersection of these lines can be used to align features in the photograph. Aligning a photograph with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the photograph than simply centering would.

Huh? too confusing? Don’t worry, trust me you do not need to be in the middle of the image for it to be a fabulous portrait!!

Light in the Eyes- The hallmark of a good portrait is good lighting and that produces “catchlights”, a reflection of light in the eyes.

I constantly move my subjects around to find the perfect light!

If you look through fashion magazines and look close at the eyes you will see the catchlights! Without these the eyes look dull and lifeless.

I digress, I have gone on long enough… use the contact form below to contact me and we can schedule our portrait session soon.
