You’ve Got Mail!

Do you remember the days of AOL, when email was  a BIG THING…

I am not sure if it is a good thing that I remember the earlier days of email or not; but never the less, I do.

I also remember the days of spamless inbox,’ (sigh) and wondering if someone would check their email “that week.”

Do these ideals make me old?  Do they make me old fashioned?

Call me odd, but as integrated into my life as technology is, I am still not a “texter” as a general rule.  And there is something about  a phone call (before I “shoot” (or email) numbers across to potential clients) that I find appealing.

That stated, we are in the age of twenty somethings “raised” on digital communication, and I am quickly learning it is more and more common to book photographers without ever seeing them face to face or speaking with them on the phone.   This ideal really makes me the odd ball!

I have thought about this more an more over the past few days.  I have completed the “self-analysis” and even though it means I may not book a client or two, I am going to stick with my internal policy.  I want to chat with my clients on the phone…

I want to hear their voice.

If possible, I want to meet my brides face to face.

Today, I stand on my soapbox and speak to the internet.  Where has the art of personal contact gone?

Do we need to be reminded that there are some “unwritten” etiquette rules regarding client interaction.   Maybe to the photographers, and maybe to clients as well.

Human Contact Still Matters: If you love me and love what I do, you will speak with me some day, why not speak with me before lending me your signature on a check?

  • Do common day consumers use email as a way to avoid personal interaction?
  • Are there still some things that REQUIRE face to face time?
  • Are there purchases of services that need to be made with a telephone, or is email sufficient?

I really don’t know the answers to these questions… what do you think?
